A study on yalvaç leathermaking and leather art with herbal and chemical methods in the Republican era

Skin; Since ancient times, it has become one of the natural materials frequently used by people, such as stone and wood. Leatherworking has developed over time and turned into a branch of art that takes its place in many areas, from hand tools to tents, home decoration and clothing. Many things that the ancient Turks used in daily life, from horse harnesses to food containers, from water bottles to cheese and butter skins, from book containers to clothes, slippers, chests and saddles, were made from the skins of edible animals. Yalvaç, whose history dates back to ancient times, is also a culturally rich region. Historically, Yalvaç is a region that lived through the Roman period, the Hellenistic period and the Byzantine periods. Yalvac; It has been determined that it has important tourism values such as faith, culture, museum and history tourism, as well as mountain, river and rural tourism. Leather, which has become an indispensable product of trade, has contributed to the trade routes of different civilizations and civilisations. Tourism and cultural heritage are in intense interaction. It plays an important role in the promotion of traditional handicrafts. Since handicrafts bring touristic attraction and dynamism to the region, they have become an integral part of tourism by creating economic added value in terms of tourism. The fact that these studies continue together with aestheticism today shows the intense interest given to the field of leatherworking. In this respect, revisiting the leather art, which has almost been forgotten today, makes this thesis necessary and original. In the research of the thesis, field research and literature review were carried out. The information obtained was evaluated and suggestions were made to keep leathermaking alive.
