Dabbagh-zāda Mahmad Afandi's work "at-Tartīb al-Jamīl fī Sharh at-Tarkīb al-Jalīl" (Text review)

Dabbāgh-zāda, who was an important sheikh al-Islam who had a great influence on the Ottoman state administration in the position of Mashīkha, to which he was appointed twice in the last quarter of the 17th century, expounded on the work of Saʿdu'd-dīn Masʿūd at-Taftāzānī, one of the 14th century scholars, called at-Tarkīb al-Jalīl on naḥw under the title of at-Tartīb al-Jamīl fī Sharḥ at-Tarkīb al-Jalîl annotated in Arabic. Since we found this commentary work remarkable and important, we aimed to bring the work to light through text analysis and thus to bring it to linguistics. Therefore, our thesis, which consists of three parts, is essentially a study of manuscript review. In the first chapter, Dabbāgh-zāda's life, scientific personality and official duties are discussed in detail. In our extensive literature review, we could not come across any other study that dealt with Dabbāgh-zāda 's biography as a whole as extensively as in our thesis. Our study differs from other studies in this respect. In the second part, twenty-seven manuscript copies of the work that we found in libraries in Turkey were described. In the last part, we took a total of five manuscripts, one of which is the author's copy, as a basis for comparison. We have added the annotations in the copies to the relevant places in the footnotes. In addition to the reference information of the sources referenced in the work, we specified additional explanations that are deemed necessary in the footnotes.
