The impact of the earthquake on people's faith

Throughout history, humanity has faced natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. The disasters that occur cause the death of many people, the destruction of their assets, temporary or permanent migrations from this region to other regions, and sometimes the exposure of individuals to physical or psychological effects. The earthquake disaster, where the loss of life or destruction is very high, affects people's religious beliefs. In this context, religious beliefs and worship are among the areas affected by these disasters. It is known that religion and belief are effective in making sense of these disasters and coping with these disasters. In this study, the effect of the earthquake on people's faith was examined. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted with 164 participants who experienced this earthquake in the earthquake that occurred interwiews were conducted with 20 particapants in Turkey on February 6, 2023. In our research, we tried to re-identify the general religious thoughst, beliefs and attributions changing behavior patterns and moral changes of thouse who experienced these events after the disasters, to compare the findings of previous research and to reveal new findings after analysis.
