A comparison study on depression and suicide attempt

In this study, it was aimed to compare individuals with suicide attempt diagnosed with depression, individuals without suicide attempt diagnosed with depression and healthy individuals in terms of childhood traumas, emotion dysregulation and psychological resilience. It was also aimed to compare the gender, marital status and employment status of the groups. In addition to the reason and method of suicide, the suicide story of the suicide attempters themselves and their family members were analyzed. The study group consisted of individuals between the ages of 18 and 65. A total of 297 individuals (100 with depression and suicide attempts, 101 without depression and suicide attempts, and 96 healthy individuals) participated in the study. The data of the study were obtained by personal information form, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire Brief Form (CTQ), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Brief Form (DERS-16) and The Adult Resilience Measure Brief Form (ARM-BF). The data were analyzed with MANOVA test in SPSS program. In the comparison of the groups in terms of demographic data, differences were found in terms of marital status, while no significant differences were found in terms of gender and employment status. In the comparison of the groups in terms of variables, it was observed that individuals with suicide attempts diagnosed with depression experienced more childhood traumas than individuals without suicide attempts diagnosed with depression, and individuals without suicide attempts diagnosed with depression experienced more childhood traumas than healthy individuals, and had lower levels of psychological resilience despite having more difficulties in emotion regulation. Based on these results, the differences between the groups were discussed in the context of the literature.
