Abstract (EN)
The study focuses on the promotion of local products, the use of geographical indications, and the contributions to the regional economy by women's cooperatives operating in the Balıkesir province. The establishment and development processes of the cooperatives, the personal and economic changes of the members, the impact of gastronomic value on marketing and promotion, contributions to regional development, and the challenges faced are examined in detail. The research is based on in-depth interviews with cooperative members, using semi-structured interviews and content analysis methods. The findings reveal that cooperatives are a significant tool in empowering women's economic independence and social roles. It has been determined that the products promoted by the cooperatives increase their competitiveness in local and national markets, thereby making significant contributions to the local economy. The study also addresses the main challenges faced by cooperatives, particularly financial and bureaucratic obstacles, and strategies that can be implemented to overcome these challenges. In the recommendations section, solutions such as increasing the role of local governments to support the sustainability and expansion of cooperatives, strengthening training programs, and using alternative financing methods are presented. Keywords: Women's Cooperatives, Sındırgı, Gastronomy, Gastronomy Values, Geographical Indications
