Bibliometric analysis of studies on government accounting: Web of Science application

The aim of this study is to reveal the development and trend of academic articles written between 2002 and 2022 on "Government Accounting", which is the recording method of the state that has an active role in economic management, in terms of various indicators, through Web of Science, an academic database consisting of reputable publications. For this purpose, bibliometric analysis of articles on Government Accounting in the Web of Science database was carried out with the Visual Mapping Method using the VOSviewer 1.6.20 package program. In the database search using the keyword "Government Accounting", a total of 8,755 articles were found between 2002 and 2022. Within the framework of bibliometric analysis, countries, institutions, documents, sources and authors with bibliometric matching; According to citation analysis, countries, institutions, documents, sources, authors; authors, countries, institutions in co-authorship analysis; authors cited, references cited, sources cited in co-citation analysis; author keywords in collocation analysis; Finally, the keywords used in the abstracts of the publications were analyzed. In the analysis made, it was seen that the interest in the subject of Government Accounting is increasing day by day and the knowledge accumulated so far has reached great dimensions. It was seen that the number of articles on the subject, while it was a small number in 2002 (7 articles), reached the highest level (1,425 articles) in 2022. It has been determined that the country that publishes the most articles is the USA, the language of publication is English, and the journal is Sustainability Journal. It was determined that the most cited journal among the journals was Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal. It was determined that the most cited author was Laurence Ferry and the author with the highest connection strength was Campos Pablo, and a detailed analysis of many connection points regarding the bibliometric analysis of the subject was made Keywords: Government Accounting, Web of Science, Bibliometric Analysis, Accountability.
