Examination of digital addictions of state university and foundation university students according to their future expectations and personal characteristics

This research was maden to examine whether there is a difference in the digital addiction levels of state and foundation university students according to their attitudes towards the future and their personal information (gender, mother's education level, father's education level, technological device owned, university attended). The population of the research consists of students from Hatay Mustafa Kemal University and TR Toros University, studying in the 2022-2023 academic year. The sample of the research consists of 248 students from Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, veterinary medicine, psychological counseling and guidance, radio, television and cinema, journalism, Turkish teaching departments and 162 students from Toros University psychology, economics, international relations, gastronomy, nursing and physical therapy and rehabilitation departments. Personal Information Form, Digital Addiction Scale and Attitude towards the Future scale were used as data collection tools. The t-test and multiple variance analysis (MANOVA) were used to examine whether there was a difference in the digital addiction levels of the students participating in the study. According to the results of the analysis, a statistically significant difference was found between the digital addiction levels of public and private university students (p<0.05 p=0.03). When the attitudes of public and private university students towards the future are compared; There was no statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of positive orientation towards the future (p>0.05 p= 0.27), anxious orientation (p>0.05 p= 0.51) and planned orientation (p>0.05 p=0.89). While there was no significant difference in the digital addiction levels of public university students according to their attitudes towards the future (p>0.05 p=0.132), father's education level (p>0.05 p=0.07) and the number of technological devices owned (p>0.05 p=0.44); A statistically significant difference was found according to gender (p<0.05 p=0.000) and maternal education level (p<0.05 p=0.08). While there was a significant difference in the digital addiction levels of private university students according to their attitudes towards the future (p<0.05 p=0.001) and gender (p<0.05 p=0.02); Statistically significant difference wasn't found in mother's education level (p>0.05 p=0.16), father's education level (p>0.05 p= 0.07) and the number of technological devices owned (p>0.05 p= 0.16).
