The effect of diction activities on speaking skills of seventh grade secondary school students

The aim of this study is to designate the effect of diction activities on their speaking skills of seventh grade secondary school students. Fifty three seventh grade students who are educated in Alanyurt Secondary School located in Inegöl District, Bursa Province in 2017-2018 education and training term have participated to the research. Mixed method in which quantitative and qualitative research methods have been used in extent of the research. The scope of the mixed method while quasiexperimental design with pretest and posttest control groups which are of quantitative research methods have been used, student based assessment form has been used in terms of qualitative research methods. "Evaluation of Speaking Problems Form" along with "Assessment Form of Effective and Delicate Speaking" which have been developed by the researcher in the extent of data gathering have been used. In addition to these forms, "Personal Information Form" and "Student Interview Form" have been used in order to obtain qualitative datum. Experiment and control groups have been formed in the scope of study. Eightweek syllabus which includes diction activities for the experiment group has been carried out. As for the control group, lesson continuum to which befits Turkish lesson instructor guide has been operated. Findings which have been obtained throughout the research process have been analyzed by statistics programmes. In the context of analysis, related and unrelated computational analysis and descriptive analysis were used. Besides, datas which have been obtained by interview form for the analysis of qualitative datas have been seperated into codes and themes, being sorted out with content analysis. In the outcome of the research, it has been extrapolated that diction activities on speaking skills of seventh grade secondary school students have created a meaningful difference.
