The relationship between coping with religious issues, levels of compassion, and conflict resolution styles in married couples

This study examines the relationship between levels of compassion and religious coping strategies of married individuals or those with marriage experience, and their conflict resolution styles in marriage (positive conflict resolution, negative conflict resolution, submission, and withdrawal). In this context, the mediating role of compassion in the relationship between religious coping strategies and conflict resolution styles in marriage, and the moderating effect of religious coping on the relationship between compassion and conflict resolution styles in marriage were investigated. A total of 429 individuals, consisting of 328 women and 101 men aged between 18-55 from various provinces of Turkey, voluntarily participated in the study. A relational screening model was used in the study. Data were analyzed using t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, chi-square, and regression analysis. According to the results obtained, it was found that compassion scores and positive religious coping strategies significantly predicted positive conflict resolution styles, and that compassion scores significantly predicted negative conflict resolution styles. However, when positive religious coping strategies were added to the analysis, they did not significantly predict negative conflict resolution styles. It was observed that compassion partially mediated the relationship between positive religious coping and positive conflict resolution styles, and that positive religious coping did not have a moderating effect on the influence of compassion on positive conflict resolution styles.
