Abstract (EN)
In this study, listening activities based on radio plays were developed in order to determine the effect of radio plays in the listening education process and the effect of the developed activities on listening comprehension, listening anxiety and attitude was tried to be determined. In line with the purpose of the study, embedded mixed design was preferred as the research method in order to reach detailed and valid results. Thanks to the embedded mixed design, which allows using the advantages provided by qualitative and quantitative methods, both quantitative and qualitative data were included in the process in the stages of activity development, implementation and evaluation of the implementation results. Case study design was preferred in the qualitative dimension of the study, and pre-test-post-test control group quasi-experimental design was preferred in the quantitative dimension. The study group of this research, which was conducted with a total of 27 5th grade students, consisted of 13 experimental and 14 control group students. The data collection tools constituting the qualitative dimension of the study are the semi-structured interview form, the researcher's diary and the participant diary. The data collection tools constituting the quantitative dimension are the listening comprehension achievement test developed by the researcher, the listening anxiety scale developed by Melanlıoğlu (2013) and the listening attitude scale for middle school students developed by Karakuş Tayşi and Özbay (2016). The data obtained from the qualitative data collection tools were coded using the content analysis method and then divided into categories and themes and presented in tables. The data obtained from the quantitative data collection tools were examined with the Covariance (ANCOVA) analysis in order to reach statistically stronger results by keeping the pre-test results under control. When the quantitative and qualitative results obtained from the research were evaluated together, it was concluded that the use of radio plays in the listening education process positively affected the students' success in understanding what they listened to, reduced listening anxiety and increased listening attitude.
