An intellectual from Diyarbakır: Dr. Yusuf Azizoğlu

Dr. Yusuf Azizoğlu, one of the important personalities of Diyarbakır, was born in 1917in the Silvan District. After graduating from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, he came to Silvan District of Diyarbakır his hometown, to serve his people and served as the Chief Physician of Silvan Municipal Hospital. He became the mayor of Silvan by winning the mayrol elections 1946.Yusuf Azizoğlu, who made, a distinguished name for himself with his great services, has become one the most respected political values in Diyarbakir. He participated in the ninth parliamentary general elections held on 1950, and as a result of the elections, he became a member of TBMM (the Grand National Assembly of Turkey) as a deputy of the Democratic Party Diyarbakır. Azizoğlu, who became a deputy from the Democrat Party in the tent general parliamentary elections held on May 2, 1954, later trasferred to the New Turkey Party and became a member of parliament of Diyarbakır in the general elections held in 1961, 1965 and 1969. Azizoğlu, Who is known for his hard work in the Parliament, has made various speechs and made motions during his time as a deputy. Azizoğlu, Who carried out as the Minister of Health and Social Assistance of the twenty seventh Government established under the prasidency of İsmet İnönü, has made his name with his services. Azizoğlu, who has knowledge about health problems in Turkey due to being a medical doctor, has made initiatives related to public health during the Ministry of Health. He provided the conditions for having physicians by establishing health centers in sub-districts and villages. He provided the establishment of many hospitals and Health Colleges and he also brought the issue of many hospitals and Healts Colleges and he also brought the issue of health insurance to the agende inthe parliament and initiated studies on it. Doctor Yusuf Azizoğlu, who took place in the pages of history as an intellectual and service man from Diyarbakır, died in Ankara on May 1, 1970 while he was a member of parliament. In the preparation of this study, mainly the main sources in the Presidency republic archvie, the minutes in the TBMM Library, the periodicals and research studies in the Ankara National Library were made with.
