Researches on exending the planting period of oriental spruce (Picea orientalis L. Link.) seedlings

In this study, the facilities to expand planting time in artificial regeneration scence and afforestation areas were investigated. In Artvin region the seedlings were planted in late June 2007, in late June ripen in cold storage , in late July , in late August and in late October. Their seedling height, the growth of root collar diameter and survival rate were evaluated.The statistical approach was a randomized complete block desing with three replications. Thirty (30) seedlings of Oriental Spruce grown in tray pots for each replication were used. In sample plots, the height of the seedlings and root collar diameter planted at the end of the 2007 growing period and at the end of the 2008 vegetation period were measured three times and their survival rate was defined.According to the statistical analyses, all plantings showed the same growth for height growth except late June plantings. According to the analyses about root collar diameter, late June plantings have the best average root collar diameter in regard to 2008 growing period. At the end of the 2007 growing period for survival rate late August and late July plantings have the best survival rates. At the end of the 2008 growing period, the best survival rates were obtained in late October, late August and late July plantings.Keywords: Oriental Spruce, Picea orientalis, Planting Period, Seedling Growth, Survival Rate
