Circular economy and waste management in Turkey

Globalization, industrialization, urbanization, and climate change are creating pressure on the ecological balance. İncreased pressure on resources, the decrease and disappearance of natural resources, and the increase in waste production have brought about discussions on the term, "Circular economy." Circular economy utilizes a model which is comprised of a system of production and consumerism which aims to have available material and products be used as fully as possible, maintained and repaired, renewed, and recycled, rather than the buy-use-dispose approach of linear economy. Circular economy, which has come to signify an increase in product life cycle and lifespan, has been placed at the center of the sustainable development policy by the European Union in the year 2015. Procedures and measures regarding these concepts have been delineated by the European Union through Circular economy. The aim of the Cyclic Economy Package is to increase recycling capacity and enable recovery rates through desired circular economy ile profit and gains. The goal of this research is to examine the waste management policies, and their effects, of the countries of the European Union within the context of their environmental policies in the scope of their Circular economy model, to examine the level of adaptability of Turkey to a model of Circular Economy, along with its development. In the matters of Circular Economy and waste management policies, Turkey must follow the system applied in the European Union, whether it be waste regulations, or new measures and the designation of new economic models must be applied to ensure sustainable development.
