Crime fiction in the translation zone of world literature: A comparison between American and Turkish literature through Mickey Spillane's and Kemal Tahir's Mike Hammer novels

In this study, American detective novelist Frank Morrison's Mike Hammer series, written under the pseudonym Mickey Spillane, and Kemal Tahir's Translations of Mayk Hammer, which he made under the pseudonym F. M. İkinci, will be compared and examined. Apart from these works, Mayk Hammer novels written by Kemal Tahir under the same pseudonym are also included in the study and comprehensive and comparative research between American and Turkish literature is aimed. To make this comparison meaningful, in the first part, the concept of world literature, the role of translation in world literature, and the place of crime fiction in world literature will be explained. In the second part, translation and original crime fiction novels in Turkish literature will be mentioned. In the third chapter, after doing the same work to understand the place of the detective novel in American literature, comparisons between Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer and Kemal Tahir's Mayk Hammer series will be examined. With these comparisons, it is aimed to show where crime fiction stands within the concept of world literature, the contributions of translation to the concept of world literature, and how the similarities and differences between the two cultures can be revealed through literature.
