Terminological contribution to emotion-focused space criticism: Pathetics - apathetics place

This study aims to carry out an analysis using the concepts of pathetic and apathetic in the context of text-architecture relationship. The method of the study consists of literature review. Within the scope of the thesis, the concepts of pathetic and apathetic are discussed separately and their relationship with literature is examined. At the same time, the definition of the concept of space, its place in the discipline of architecture and its historical process were examined. The study emphasizes the importance of the object in the transfer of pathetic and apathetic emotions and focuses on the role of space in emotional communication. The main purpose of this research is to enrich the criticism of emotionally focused space design by examining the literary concepts of patetic and apathetic in architectural literature within a theoretical framework. However, it is not intended to make an evaluation on whether these two theories should be interpreted positively or negatively or whether one should be preferred over the other. The study emphasizes the usability of the concepts of pathetic space and apathetic space in architectural criticism terminology and offers examples of criticism through sample spaces for this purpose. This study makes a terminological contribution to architectural criticism, where the relationship between architecture and emotion is discussed.
