Emotional intelligence and conflict resolution strategies: A field research

The primary purpose of this research is; this study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and conflict resolution strategies in a sample group consisting of theology faculty students. The main body of the research consists of 574 students studying at Artvin Coruh University Faculty of Theology. Data were obtained from the central mass, electronically and by face-to-face survey method. The total number of surveys obtained is 258, and 9 questionnaires were not included in the analysis because they were unsuitable for evaluation, and 249 survey data were used in the research analysis. The questionnaire prepared within the scope of the research consists of three parts. While the first part of the questionnaire included questions about demographic information, the other two parts included the "Emotional Intelligence Scale" developed by Wong & Law (2002) and the "Emotional Intelligence Scale" developed by Janssen & Van de Vliert (1996) and De Dreu et al. (2001) "Conflict Resolution Strategies Scale" adapted to the intercultural level. The emotional intelligence scale consists of 4 sub-dimensions (understanding one's own emotions, understanding others' emotions, using emotions, and regulating emotions), and the conflict resolution strategies scale consists of 5 sub-dimensions (adaptation, compromise, competition, problem-solving, avoidance). The reliability, validity, normality, and factor analysis surveys were suitable for analysis. In order to test the hypotheses formed within the scope of the research, correlation analyzes were performed with ANOVA and T-test. As a result of the analyzes carried out, it was found that the emotional intelligence averages differ according to the age variable and also in terms of the gender variable of the sample; Adaptation, competition, and avoidance strategies were found to be different from the averages. It was determined in the study that there was a difference in the average of the adaptation strategy according to the working experience. As a result of the correlation analysis conducted to examine the relationship between the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence and the sub-dimensions of conflict resolution strategies, it was seen that there were various positive and negative relationships.
