Abstract (EN)

This study covers the Edremit Plain and its environs that has the settlement of Edremit, Buhraniye and Harvan in it and located within the boundaries of the province of Balıkesir. The Edremit Plain, located in the north of the Aegean Region, is a semi-graben with a triangular shape between the Kaz and Madra Mountains, unlike the grabens in Western Anatolia. The main purpose of this thesis is to explain alluvial geomorphology units of Edremit Plain, which is a bit complex in geological sense, and to evaluate alluvial units with new approaches. The Kaz Mountains in the north of the research area were not affected by glacial climate as a result of global climate changes but were affected by periglasial processes. In this period, the coastline changed continuously in Edremit Bay due to sea level changes. In this period, the coastline changed continuously in Edremit Bay due to sea level changes. Accordingly, various alluvial environments developed under tectonic and geological elements in the Gulf of Edremit. These are terrestrial, marine and deltaic environments. In this study, alluvial environments in and around Edremit plain were investigated using numerical analysis. In this context, the drainage media flowing towards the plain first were evaluated by hydrographic analysis and the morphological features of the river basins which are effective in the transport of the alluvial unit were revealed. The samples taken from the current river beds in the Edremit Plain were subjected to granulometric analysis and the grain size analysis of the materials carried by the streams in the plain was carried out. Some of these sediment samples were subjected to elemental analysis and the ratio of the elements that gained intensity were determined. Mineralogical analyzes were performed in order to reveal the structural characterization of the samples taken from the sediments. Finally, the drilling data on the Edremit plain by D.S.İ, Burhaniye Municipality and private companies were evaluated and conclusions were drawn on the paleogeographical development of the plain.
