Abstract (EN)
Soil conditions have a great deal to do with damage to structures during earthquakes. In this study, stochastic responses of a cable-stayed bridge which supported on vertical pile groups subjected to the spatially varying earthquake ground motion are investigated by the finite element method with and without soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects. Because of the complex nature of earth crust, the spatially of earthquake motion should be taken into account in the dynamic analysis of long span structures. The study prepared with this scope includes the following chapters.In the first chapter of the study is mentioned historical evolution and structural components of cable stayed bridges, pile foundation systems and previous researches which related with this study.In the second chapter, the formulation of stochastic analysis of the considering spatially varying ground motions is presented.In the third chapter, the ground motion used in the stochastic analyses is described. In addition, the analytical model of the selected Quincy Bay-view Bridge and soil-pile interaction are obtained.In the fourth chapter, response values obtained from the stochastic analyses with and without soil-structure interaction effects are examined. Results and recommendations are given in the fifth chapter, the references are presented in the next chapter.As a result, it is observed that the soil-structure interaction effects and incoherence, wave-passage and uniform ground motion effects which define spatially varying of the ground motions, have significant effects on the dynamic behavior of cable-stayed bridge. So, these effects should be taken into account for dynamic analysis of long structural systems like cable-stayed bridges.
