A study to determine the financial literacy levels of the workers working in a leather products factory in Elazığ

Today, the importance of financial literacy is increasing. It appears as a concept whose importance increases with each passing day. Financial literacy has an impact on even the most ordinary transactions and has an impact on today's decisions and our future. Especially in areas related to money, it significantly helps to clarify different budget or financial practices, regardless of whether individuals are knowledgeable or not. The decision-making processes of monetary resources are profoundly shaped by budgetary education regarding the understanding of important money-related issues. Financial knowledge is an important type of literacy that determines attitudes and actions in life situations, such as experience in financial operations, the ability to communicate about financial concepts, the ability to use different financial concepts and instruments, the ability to make adequate financial decisions, attitudes towards the use of financial instruments, people's trust in the financial transactions carried out and actual financial behaviour. The aim of this research is to obtain information about the bank experiences, financial literacy and financial statement literacy used by the personnel of the enterprises operating in the leather manufacturing industry operating in Elazığ province. In this context, it is to contribute to the protection of the existing information of the personnel, to keep it up to date, to determine the deficiencies and to take measures to eliminate these deficiencies. It is aimed to create awareness among the personnel on this issue, and thus, it is thought that individuals who are made aware of financial and financial statement literacy will exhibit a tendency to save and turn their savings into large investments. The aim of our study is to determine the financial literacy and financial statement literacy levels of the business personnel in Elazığ organised industrial zone and to evaluate the investments of these personnel and to determine their deficiencies in the activities to be carried out in the financial field and to suggest solutions. In line with the aim of this research, three enterprises operating in the leather manufacturing industry operating in Elazığ province consist of 357 employees selected by random selection method. According to the results of the analyses, it was determined that the financial literacy knowledge level of the employees of the enterprises operating in the leather products industry in Elazığ province remained at a low level. It has been observed that the employees' basic level of knowledge of Economics and Finance dimension, the level of knowledge of Retail banking dimension, the level of knowledge of Pension and Insurance dimension are at medium level, the level of knowledge of Tax and Legislation, the level of Financial Statements General Information, and the level of Financial Statements Special Information are at low level. It has been determined that the financial literacy level of male employees between the ages of 25-35, bachelor's degree graduates, BES enrolled, administrative staff and employees using internet banking are higher. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the field of behavioral finance and accounting literature.
