The effect of safety staff's emotional intelligence levels on motivation levels

Today, emotional intelligence has an impact on the decisions, attitudes and behaviors and motivation that people make both in business and private life. The main purpose of this research is to determine the effect of emotional intelligence levels of law enforcement personnel on motivation levels. A field study was conducted on the personnel of Ağrı provincial police department. Another purpose of this study is to examine the changes in motivation levels of law enforcement personnel according to demographic characteristics such as gender, marital status, age and length of service in the institution. Police personnel participating in the research were selected by simple random sampling method. Face-to-face survey technique was used as a data collection tool. The questionnaires were distributed to 1312 police personnel working in the provincial center of Ağrı Police Department, and the study was carried out with the data of 350 questionnaires that were answered and suitable for analysis. In the analysis of the data obtained within the scope of the research, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, frequency distribution, reliability analysis, normality analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, Mann-Whitney U and KruskalWallis tests were used. SPSS package program was used for analysis. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that the emotional intelligence levels and motivation levels of the Police personnel were positively affected. Likewise, it has been determined that the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence such as selfevaluation of emotions, use of emotions, evaluation of others' emotions and management of emotions positively affect the levels of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, which are sub-dimensions of motivation. It was agreed that the findings obtained as a result of the analyzes largely supported the results in the literature. As a result of the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskall-Wallis tests, motivation levels of law enforcement personnel and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation levels, which are subdimensions of motivation, differ significantly according to their marital status; There are no significant differences according to age, gender, educational status and duration of employment. In line with the findings obtained from this study, suggestions were made to the managers, personnel and researchers who will work on this issue.
