Abstract (EN)

The texts of classical Turkish poetry have many problems that prevent today's readers from understanding them. There are many different dimensions to this problem. Alienation from the social and cultural life of that period constitutes an important part of these problems; therefore, coming up with a solution to this problem is of great importance. Studies on contextual index and functional glossary aim to provide this solution. "Contextual Index and Functional Glossary for the Poems of Emrî" has been penned down with this purpose in mind. In this study, all the couplets in the poet's work are explained first thing, and then the obtained data are converted into glossary format. During the preparation of the glossary, necessary explanations were given about the items so that the poetry can be understood by readers at every level. This particular study is different from classical glossary studies in that it is not an analysis but a study of all the words in the Poems of Emrî in an alphabetical order. The study has revealed idioms, proverbs, stereotypes, customs and traditions in the Poems of Emrî. In addition, the cultural elements of the 16th century Ottoman society in which Emrî lived have been determined to the extent that is reflected in his poems. Thus, the language elements of the poet's poetry have been brought out. Keywords: Classical Turkish Poetry, The Poems of Emrî, Contextual İndex, Functional Glossary.
