Ammonium removal from waters by emulsion liquid membrane technique

Abstract (EN)

The study of doctorate thesis removing ammonium from waters by Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) technique was carried out in three stages. At the first stage; facilitated mechanism and chemicals playing an active role in different phases were determined. At the end of the first stage, it was found that the system was Type 1 facilitated mechanism and determined mineral oil and toluene as organic phase solvent, SPAN80 (sorbitan monooleate) as surfactant (membrane phase component), NH4Cl as ammonium (pollutant) source and for effective treatment the pH value of external phase (wastewater) should be greater than 10. At the second stage determining optimum values for physical and chemical parameters effecting in treatment process, it was obtained internal phase volume, emulsification velocity and time, stirring velocity and duration of system and pH value of external phase as 15 mL, 10000 rpm (1 minute), 250 rpm (1 minute) and 10.79 respectively in order to determine of optimum value it was taken into account ammonium removal greater then 95 % with physical observations such as turbidity. The reaction rate of ammonium removal was identified as pseudo-second order. At the and of stage carrying out ammonium removal using value of optimum system parameters from original wastewater (fertilizer industry; C_(〖NH〗_4^+ )= 700 mg/L), it was obtained removal efficiency approximately 93 % and discharge criteria located in SKKY (Table 14.7a,b) were ensured.
