Abstract (EN)
This study includes information about the use of calcite mineral which is used as an industrial raw material in various sectors in paint industry. Limestone is formed as a result of the sedimentation of millions of years and the collapse of the shell and skeleton remnants of calcium and carbonate, usually living organisms, on the seabed. Calcite is the main constituent of limestones and its chemical composition is calcium carbonate (CaCO3). According to the Mohs hardness scale, the hardness is 3 and the specific gravity is 2.7-2.9 gr / cm3. It is used as industrial raw material in various sectors and according to the data of Turkish Statistical Institute, as of 2017, the amount of calcite produced as raw material is approximately 3.5 million ton sand the amount of calcite produced as extracted is approximately 3.2 milliontons. The large limestone blocks extracted from the quarry are passed through crushers and sieves and brought to average 130 mm dimensions and sent to the plants from here and subjected to grinding process. This coarse calcite material, which is produced in desired size according to the sector to be used, can be packaged and turned into commercial product after a number of tests, if appropriate. In this study, "grain size and dispersion analysis, color (whiteness) analysis, chemical (calciumcarbonate) analysis of calcite samples on the ground calcite sample have been compared and two water-based plastic interior paints have been applied as filler material. The effects of calcite used as filling material to the paint areexplained. Covering performances of interior wall paints obtained from 3 and 30 micron milled calcite samples have been compared on a black background, and it has been found that the paint obtained from 3 micron size calcite filler have beter coverage. In addition, another advantage of fine-grained filler material is the ability to obtain a satin texture. The paint obtained with coarse-grained material has produced a more rough surface when applied to the surface. Keywords: Calsite, Paint, Industrial Raw Material
