Motor skills in individuals with disabilities

When the studies carried out to date are examined, it is seen that the number of studies on motor skills in disabled individuals is low. Therefore, the effects on motor skills in disabled individuals are not fully understood. When the studies in this field are examined, according to our information, there is no systematic review covering all these contents. This study is a systematic review of published articles on the effect and importance of motor ability in people with disabilities. In the study, while making a systematic review, the articles published in recent years on the subject were searched. This systematic review was made with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis) declaration as a guide. Disabled groups other than the Physically Handicapped, Visually Impaired, Mentally Handicapped and Hearing Impaired Groups were not included in the study. A search of the PubMed database with the keywords '(motor skill) AND (disabled)' identified a total of 3,116 publications. When the "free full text" limitation was introduced, the number dropped to 2100. After adding the limitations of "Randomized-Controlled Trial" and "Experimental Research" and "Review", a total of 256 results were obtained in the search. When the studies on human beings alone were examined and the age criterion was added, the number decreased to 110. Of those, 90 were excluded because they were not covered. The remaining 20 publications were included in the study. Looking at the results of the study: It was found that motor development was related to cognitive development in the first three years of development in disabled individuals. As a result of motor performance measurement in impaired primary school children who participated in sports and those who did not participate, it was found that children who participated in sports showed better motor performance compared to children who did not participate. Early diagnosis of motor skill development in disabled individuals and early education and exercise interventions in disabled individuals with motor skills retardation can be recommended as a result of the literature review.
