Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to examine the predictive power of adolescents' self-compassion, social connectedness and coping with stress. This research is a study based on the correlational model to find the causes of events or phenomena. The participants of the research consisted of 529 high school students, 300 females and 229 males, attending the state Anatolian and Science High Schools in Istanbul. The data was obtained from the participants via Demographic Information Form prepared by the researcher, and Self-Compassion Scale, Social Connectedness Scale and Stress Coping Styles Scale. Independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used to assess the differences among adolescents' levels of self-compassion, social connectedness and coping with stress in terms of demographic variables: gender, class level, family income status, state of parental coexistence (whether they are alive or together), educational level of the parents, number of siblings, row of siblings in the family, and previous experience of receiving psychological help. In addition, Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to determine the correlations between research variables; Multiple Regression Analysis was employed to determine the predictive roles of the main variables. According to the research findings; it was determined that self-compassion differed significantly according to gender, state of parental coexistence and experience of receiving psychological help. It was determined that social connectedness differed significantly according to gender, class level, family income status. It was determined that coping with stress differed significantly according to gender, family income status, state of parental coexistence, and experience of receiving psychological help. A positive and significant relationship was found between self-compassion and social connectedness, and between self-compassion and self-confident approach, optimistic approach, seeking of social support and coping with stress. A positive and significant relationship was found between social connectedness, and self-confident approach, optimistic approach, seeking of social support and coping with stress. Self-compassion has a positive and significant effect on self-confident approach, optimistic approach, seeking of social support and coping with stress.
