Examination of male nurses' percepti̇ons of their professional image

descriptive study was conducted to examine the professional image perceptions of male nurses. The research data were collected between December 10, 2023, and March 15, 2024, at Kırşehir Training and Research Hospital, Mucur State Hospital, and Kaman State Hospital. A total of 151 male nurses who were actively working at the hospitals, not on weekly or annual leave, and who voluntarily agreed to participate were included in the study. Data were obtained using a "Descriptive Information Form" consisting of 12 items and the "Nursing Profession Image Scale (NPIS)" consisting of 42 items. Findings revealed that 52.3% of the male nurses were between 26 and 33 years old, 64.2% were married, 70.2% had a bachelor's degree, and 40.4% had 0–5 years of professional experience. Additionally, 75.5% were working as staff nurses, 75.5% stated that they had voluntarily chosen their units, 86.1% were working in shifts, and 56.3% reported working 46–55 hours per week. It was also determined that 51.7% chose the profession due to job opportunities, 51% were partially satisfied with their profession, and 41.7% partially recommended it to others. The mean score of the Nursing Profession Image Scale was found to be 139.30±13.68 (Min=79, Max=172). In conclusion, the findings indicated that male nurses' professional image perception was at a moderate level, and it is recommended that future studies focus on strategies to strengthen and improve male nurses' professional image perceptions.
