Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to compare spontaneous EEG activities and neuropsychological profiles of early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD), and late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) with regards to matched healthy controls of age, gender and education. Method: In our study; 18 patients (average age, 57.39) who were diagnosed with EOAD and 18 young healthy participants (average age, 57.89) and 18 patients with LOAD (average age, 76.22), 18 healthy participants (average age, 74.72) were included. EEG and MRI recordings were taken after the participants were subjected to neuropsychological testing. Spontaneous EEG recording was done with eyes closed, according to the international 10-20 system. Delta, teta, alpha, and beta oscillations were measured. Results: There was a significant difference in the spontaneous oscillations of delta, theta, alpha, alpha 1 and alpha 2 between EOAD and young healthy participants. Significant differences were found in the spontaneous oscillations of theta, alpha and alpha 1 in LOAD and elderly healthy participants. Differences between delta and theta spontaneous oscillations were found between EOAD and LOAD groups. In correlation analysis, negative correlation was found between spontaneous delta and theta oscillations and positive correlation was found between alpha and beta oscillations, with all groups included. Conclusion: As a result, EOAD and LOAD differ significantly from the spontaneous EEG measurements as a group of healthy participants. The changes in EOAD group are more common and widespread than the GBAH group that observed in the EEG changes. These findings were thought to be related to the early pathological changes in the cortical region in EOAD cases and the limbic system in LOAD cases.
