Abstract (EN)

Silifke, the centre of the province of İçel, passed from the rule of Karamanids to the Ottoman Empire and continued its existence as a sanjak under the province of Adana for many years. In the early Republican period, Silifke had the status of a separate province until 1933. The province of Silifke, which has the status of a province, publishes its own "provincial newspaper" called "Taş İli". The Taş İli newspaper, which provides important political, economic and socio-cultural data about Silifke and the connected accidents in the Early Republican Period, has not received sufficient attention in the studies on Silifke, and this work, which can be described as a city memory, has not been used as a primary source. In our study, the copies of Taş İli newspaper, which is an important source about the province of İçel in the Early Republican Period, from the 93rd to the 216th copy of the newspaper belonging to the years 1923-1927 in the TBMM archive were transcribed and the news and articles in the newspaper were classified and the data on the political, administrative, economic and socio-cultural life of İçel were unearthed.
