Analyzing transportation practices of Early Republican Period through the magazine nafi̇a

In this research, transportation practices of Early Republican Period were analyzed through the Magazine Nafia in 1934-1949. All the developments about public works had been published monthly in this magazine which was monopolized by the government and the aim was to raise awareness of the society. Investments about public works had crucial roles both for the development of the state and the politics of the government. This research has been done to see and analyze the works of the newly-established country under different circumstances, and to see its effects on future plans through the Magazine Nafia. In the first chapter, the purpose, methodology and scope of the research have been presented. Early Republican Period was explained with the general overview in the second chapter. Then, transportation politics were analyzed and the keywords of transportation practices were examined in terms of the conditions of the period. In the last chapter of the research, the Magazine Nafia was analyzed with quantitative method; contents were specified and tabulated with the titles of highway, railway, bridge and engineering education; and these topics were interpreted. As a result, Early Republican Period was examined accordingly and the works about highway, railway, bridge and engineering in 15 years have been stated. It was observed that the newly-established country had adopted railway politics, but the works about highway and other public issues had fallen behind.
