Abstract (EN)

The main goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and the marital satisfaction of married/divorced people and the mediating role of the positive and negative affectivity on this relationship. The sample of the study consists of 300 individuals who are 132 males and 168 females and they are randomly selected in this sample. We obtained the dataset by using Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form, The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire for all participants. The data analysis comprised of regression results was performed by using SPSS 21.0 software. The dataset was examined within the frame of three models. The first model focuses on the relationship between the early maladaptive schemas and marital satisfaction. The second one examines the relationship between the positive and negative affectivity and marital satisfaction. Finally, we examine the mediating role of affectivity on the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and marital satisfaction in the third model. The result of the study is that among the early maladaptive schemas; emotional deprivation, failure, pessimism, social isolation, emotional inhibition, admiration-recognition seeking, dependence, insufficient self-control/self-discipline, abandonment, defectiveness, vulnerability to harm or illness, and unrelenting standards are significant predictors of marital satisfaction. The positive and negative affectivity are also significant predictors of marital satisfaction. The results of this research show us the effect of early maladaptive schemas on marital satisfaction and they state that the positive and negative affectivities of the individuals affect this relationship comprehensively.
