Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the natural ventilation system with underground pipe in a calf stable at the winter season under the Erzurum conditions. In order to realize the purpose of the study, a 48 head calf stable with a floor area of 150 m2 was used. The underground pipe natural ventilation system and the natural ventilation system with windows were applied to the barn. The temperature, relative humidity, air flow rate in the stall, internal pollutants such as ammonia (NH3), hydrogensulfide (H2S), sulfurdioxide (SO2), carbonmonokside (CO), carbondioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) gases, and the temperature, relative humidity, air flow rate of outside air were continuously measured throughout the months of December, January, February, and March. Measured parameters in both ventilation systems were statistically compared. As a result of the study, the parameters of temperature, relative humidity, air flow rate, and the internal pollutants in the stall under the winter conditions of Erzurum were statistically affected in a positive way by the natural ventilation system with underground pipe more than the natural ventilation system with windows. In the underground piped natural ventilation system the outside air taken from the outer surface of one of the longer walls of the barrel crossed transversely through the shelter basement, entered the shelter from the inner surface of the other longer wall and then became warmer than the outside air entering through windows. This situation caused the inside air to be distributed more homogeneous and the temperature, relative humidity and air flow rate of the inside air to be within more appropriate limits.
