Structural characteristics of Erzurum side Yakutiye river cattle livestock enterprises

Abstract (EN)

This study comprises of a survey among 235 randomly chosen cattle breeding managements in villages administratively linked to Yakutiye district in Erzurum. The survey results show that the average age of the breeders is 47 and they have been breeding cattle for 27 years and that %62,0 of them are not members of any association. It also showed that the number of cattle for each cattle breeding management is 34,7, that the capacity of the stables is 43,7 and that %72 of the breeders retrieve technical information, %51,6 of these people adopt cattle breeding as the main source of livelihood and %78,4 of them is raising cattle willingly and that %58,3 of them are primary school graduates. The rate of closed stables with chained stationary is %70,2 and the number of the chimneys is 2. %33,6 of the managements benefit from dairy support and the rate of recording is %73,2. The survey further indicates that %62,9 of them are dissatisfied with artificial insemination. Breeders are eager for technical information and support so it would be useful to give them education about stable types, recording, the government's supports and artificial insemination.
