Salvage (extraordinary) cuttings and their effects in Erzurum Forest Regional Directorate between 2011-2015 years

Forest resources in Turkey are managed according to the ecosystem based multiple used (functional) planning approach. Cutting map is the final output of the forest management plans. Final and intermediate yield cuttings tables show that allowable cut in the regenaration and tending areas. Apart from these allowable cuttings, salvage cuttings (SC) are teken due natural events (biotic) such as fire, storm, insect damages and etc., and due to legal easements (road construction, power transmission lines etc.) given for the purpose of improving social life (abiotic). SC is an undesirable situation because it is deducted from the allowable cut to be taken in a regeneration and tending areas according to forest management plan. In this PHD thesis; during the five-year period between 2011 and 2015, SC end effects have been studied using extraordinary cutting reports and related tables, which in the study area (Erzurum Forest Regional Directorate). At the end of the research, it was observed that SC were taken due to snow-storm, legal permissions, Viscum album, insect and fire damages, road construction and other reasons. In the five year period, the highest number of salvage cutting was occured in 2015 due to snow-storms faillings. Since there aren't many fires in Erzurum Forest Regional Directorate, the least SC occurs due to fire damages. Following the SC due to snow-storm fallings in Erzurum Forest Regional Directorate, the damages of road-establishment constructions, legal permissions, Viscum album, insect, fire and other reasons come respectively. Climatic conditions of Erzurum, the amount and type of precipitation cause the snow-storm fallings to be more. With similar studies to be carried in different regions of Turkey, the reasons for SC can be determined, and the necessary precautions can be taken.
