Effect of black carrot extract to rat tissues induced ethanol

Abstract (EN)

There are many polyphenol compounds in black carrot juice. The antioxidant and anticancer effects of these compounds are known. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the protective effect of black carrot juices against oxidative stress produced by ethyl alcohol in rats. For the study, four different groups as control group (C), ethyl alcohol (E) group, black carrot juices (S) group and ethyl alcohol + black carrot juices (ES) group were formed. MDA, reduced GSH, GSH-Px, catalase, Fe, Ca and Zn levels were determined in the liver, brain and testis of rats. In all tissues, the MDA levels of E group increased when compared to the other group. By the effects of black carrot, the MDA levels in the combination groups decreased when compared to Ethyl alcohol groups. In the liver and testis tissues samples, GSH levels of E group was decreased than K group. In the liver and testis tissues samples, GSH-Px activities of E group decreased when compared to the K group. By the effects of black carrot in the liver and testis tissues, GSH-Px enzyme activities of ES groups increased when comperad to the E group. Testicular tissue Ca and Fe levels were high in group E, but decreased in Zn levels. Ethyl alcohol decreased the Ca level while increasing the Fe level in liver tissue. According to our results; oxidative stress caused by ethyl alcohol reduced black carrot juice.
