Abstract (EN)

Ethyl alcohol is a toxin substance. There are many polyphenol compounds in pomegranate juice. The antioxidant effects of polyphenol-derived substances are known. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of pomegranate juice against oxidative stress induced by ethyl alcohol in rats. In the study, control group (K), ethyl alcohol group (E), pomegranate juice group (N) and ethyl alcohol + pomegranate juice group (EN) were formed. Malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), acetylcholine esterase (AChE), carboxylesterase (CaE) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) parameters in testis, brain and liver tissues of rats were investigated. MDA levels of group E increased in all three tissues. GST enzyme activity levels of liver and testis tissues decreased in group E. GSH levels of group E decreased in liver tissue. CaE enzyme activity levels of group E decreased in all three tissues. MDA levels of pomegranate juice groups were lower than E group. CaE enzyme activities of the pomegranate juice groups increased in all tissues compared to the E group. AChE enzyme activity in brain tissue increased pomegranate juice. As a result, we think that pomegranate juice prevents the oxidative stress caused by ethyl alcohol.
