Abstract (EN)

In this study,change in the roles of teacher and students as well as the students? cognitive and affective developments in a classroom based on activity based instruction have been investigated via action research. The research has been carried out with 10 students who study in a village primary school of Akçaabat in Trabzon. The study continued during 16 hours with the particular topics of the chapters of triangles and algebra and journey in mathematicsin 8th grade mathematics curriculum. During the study, it has been tried to teach students via activities as dividing them into groups of twos.It has been observed from the study that activity based learning has a positive effect on students? interest, perception and attitude towards mathematics; enhance student success and have an impact of developing students? self-esteem. In addition, it has been found that students? sense of responsibility heightens, their reasoning skills are supported. Moreover, it has been concluded that concerns of students for future due to the SBS exam which they will take at the end of term have been postponed but not been disappeared.Keywords: Activity Based Instruction, Mathematics, Action Research, Group Learning Method
