Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of plaque disclosng tablets (PDTs) on periodontal tissues in patients with fixed and removable retainers.84 individuals who completed fixed orthodontic treatment in Adıyaman University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics were included. Individuals were randomly divided into 4 groups (21 individuals in each group). The first group consist Lingual retainer patients (LR) with ABE, the second group received LR with PDT (LR-PDT), the third group received essix with ABE, and the fourth group received essix with PDT (Essix-PDT). The control group consist of 21 individuals without orthodontic treatment. Before (T0) and after applying appliances 3 months (T1) and 6 months later (T2); plaque, calculus and gingival indexes and bleeding on probing were measured. Periodontal measurements were also performed in the control group. All periodontal values were found significantly higher in the LR group than in the control and LR-PDT groups. There was no significant difference between the LR-PDT and the control groups. All periodontal values were found significantly higher than in the Essix group than in the control and Essix-PDT groups. There was no significant difference between the Essix-PDT group and the control group. The use of PDTs may have a positive effect on periodontal health in patients with both fixed and removable retainers.
