Examination of the attitudes of sci̇ence teachers towards blood donation

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the attitudes of science teaching students towards blood donation and examine the effect of various variables on the attitude scores of students. The research was conducted with the participants of 283 prospective science teachers who were studying at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of the universities in the two socio-cultural and economic middle-developed provinces of Anatolia (Aksaray University and Afyon Kocatepe University). ''The screening model' was used as a quantitative research method and ''Attitude Survey for Blood Donation'' was used to collect the data of the present study. This survey ; ''The Personal Information Form'' and ''Blood Donation Attitude Scale consisting of 24 questions 5 point Likert type'' developed by Çelik and Güven(2015). SPSS 22.0 statistical program was used for data analysis. In the analyses of the data, Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U-Test and Kruskal Wallis H-Test were used. At the end of the study, It was found that science teacher candidates' level of attitude towards blood donation was high. Gender, continuous and regular blood donation and teacher candidates' level of attitudes towards blood donation according to the level of education showed a significance difference. Morever, while the attittude scores of female prpspective teachers,prospective teachers of 1st or 3th grades and teacher candidates who donated blood continuously and regularly were found quite high; the attitude scores of male teachers candidates, teachers candidates of 4th grades and teacher candidates who aren't donated blood were found low. In addition,there was no significant difference between the blood donation status, the status of the individuals who needed blood donations in their families, their parents' education status, family income status and their attitudes towards blood donation. In this study, on the other hand, some statistical results of social and social responsibility which are sub-dimensions of attitude towards blood donation, anxiety and social views and understanding dimensions were presented. In the conclusion of this study, some suggestions about the teacher candidates' levels of attitude towards blood donation and thought to contribute to the field of science education in blood donation were made.
