Usage of science teachers' mobile applications and their views about usage of these applications in science education process

The main purpose of this study is to determine the science teachers' mobile usage of mobile applications and their perspectives toward usage of these applications in science education. Within this purpose, it is aimed to examine science teachers' criteria for choosing mobile apps, which they are using in their daily life and educational process, the frequency of usage of these apps, purpose of their usage, usage in the educational process, and confronted difficulties while they are using the apps. The sample of the study, which is designed as a convergent parallel design, which is one of the mixed method designs, was 215 science teachers and the particıpant was seven science teachers. Quantitative data were collected with FEMUKDA survey and quantitative data were gathered with semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistics were used for quantitative data and qualitative data were analysis with descriptive and content analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that they are not using the mobile apps in educational settings in a sufficient level although they are using more apps more frequently in their daily life. It is determined that the teachers do not have sufficient knowledge about the applications which can be used in science education. The criteria for choosing the apps that can be used in educational activities are being free, having Turkish language opportunity, having a user-friendly interface. Besides, the participants of the study have a positive attitude toward science teachers' usage of mobile apps for educational purposes. And the factors inhibiting the mobile apps usage are determined as having limited access to both mobile devices and internet connection of students, technical and infrastructural deficiencies, and limitations related to using mobile devices in schools.
