Determining the ecological footprint awareness levels of science and classroom teachers

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the ecological footprint awareness levels of science and classroom teachers in terms of gender, age, education level, branch, seniority year, mother and father education level variables. Descriptive survey model was used in the research. The sample of the study consists of a total of 120 teachers, 60 of whom are science teachers and 60 are classroom teachers. Personal information form, ecological footprint awareness scale and a questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions prepared to obtain teachers' views on ecological footprint were used as data collection tools in the research. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test were used. As a result of the research, it was found that the awareness scores of science teachers for the food, transportation and shelter sub-dimensions of the scale were lower than that of the classroom teachers, but according to the awareness scores of the energy, waste and water consumption sub-dimensions, the awareness scores of the science teachers were higher than the awareness scores of the classroom teachers. has been reached. Considering the whole scale, it was found that the mean of awareness scores was the same for both teacher groups. According to the results of the Mann-Whitney U test, which was made with the mean scores of the teachers from the EAFÖ, there was no statistically significant difference between the overall scale, the energy sub-dimension and the waste sub-dimension (p>0.05). However, the mean scores obtained from the food sub-dimension, transportation and shelter sub-dimension, and water consumption sub-dimension of the scale created a statistically significant difference between science and classroom teachers (p<0.05), and this difference was in favor of the classroom teachers for the food sub-dimension. and housing sub-dimension in favor of classroom teachers, and for water consumption sub-dimension, it was found to be in favor of science teachers.
