The effect of online application use in science education and immediate notifications given to parents on academic success and permanentity of students

ABSTRACT; The aim of this study is to determine the effect of online application use in science education and the instant notifications given to parents on students' academic success and permanence. For this purpose, the study group of the research, which is carried out as a mixed pattern, consists of 95 fifth grade students and 27 parents who study in three different classes in a secondary school in the city center of Kastamonu. While the quantitative dimension of the research is the success and permanence test prepared by the researcher, the qualitative dimension consists of the semi-structured interviews with the students and their parents. The KR-20 reliability coefficient of the success test was determined to be 0.81. Analysis of the quantitative data was carried out with the ANOVA test using the SPSS program. Descriptive analysis method was used in the analysis of qualitative data. As a result of the research, it was determined that instant notifications given to parents through online application had a positive effect on students' academic success. In addition, it was determined that the students were satisfied with the instant notifications given to their parents, the notifications increased the motivation of the students and positively affected their attitudes and behaviors towards the Science course. Similarly, it has been determined that parents are satisfied with the instant notifications and according to the parents, positive changes in the students' behavior and attitudes towards the course, especially at home. In line with the results obtained in the research, it has been suggested to inform and encourage teachers and parents to increase the use of online applications in family participation.
