The investigation of science technology preservice teacher's environmental consciousness and attitudes towards the environment in terms of personal features

This study was made in order to determine the effect of the parameters of five factor personality features, self- compassion and teacher self efficiency and to make reasonable deductions about this topic. 275 pre-service teacher at 3rd grade who had been studying in the years of 2011-2012 at Karadeniz Technical University, Giresun University and Artvin Çoruh University which are located in the Southern Black Sea Region constituted the sample of the study. The study consists of two parts one of which is related to quantity and the other related to the quality. In the part of quantity in which the pre-service teacher?s environmental attitudes were tried to be explained through five factor personality features, self-compassion and teacher?s self efficiency, the casual comparative and the correlational model were used and during the process of collecting data, environmental attitude scale, self-compassion scale, the scale of five factor personality and teacher?s self efficiency scale, which were in the literature were benefited from. Multiple linear regression analysis was used for the analysis of quantitative data obtained as the result of these criteria. In the quality part of the study, the open ended survey technique was used to determine the pre-service teacher?s views of environmental education on their attitudes and their self-efficiency about environmental education and the descriptive analysis technique was used for the analysis of the data. As a result, it was seen that the pre-service teacher?s environmental attitudes were influenced by the existent parameters and it was concluded that on this context these factors were effective on the establishment of their attitudes towards the environment. It could be thought that depending on the results obtained through the study, the applications to develop the personalities, self-compassion features and self-efficiency of pre-service teacher were required to be used in order to change their environmental attitudes positively during the period of their university education.
