Fire safety research and fire risk analysis in public and private accommodation establishments

Accommodation businesses in the tourism sector continue to develop and create employment even during economic crises. The increase in the number of accommodation establishments increases employment and causes competition in this field. Therefore, it is extremely important to take serious security measures so that people working in accommodation establishments can continue their activities comfortably and safely and customers feel safe. In this sense, one of the important factors that threaten security is fire. Fire safety precautions should be taken to eliminate the factors that may cause fire and to reduce the loss of life and property that may occur during a fire. In this context, it is aimed to evaluate the fire safety situations and fire risk of public accommodation establishments and private accommodation establishments in different provinces of Turkey. The study was conducted with qualitative research method. Relevant literature research was conducted and examinations were made. In addition, within the scope of the relevant regulation, a checklist (qualitative method) was created by the researcher and the application levels of fire safety criteria were determined. In this context, fire risks of accommodation establishments were determined and data were obtained using the 5x5 L type risk assessment method. As a result of the study, the fire safety status of the accommodation establishments examined was determined and their adequacy status i accordance with the regulation was determined. In the fire risk assessment made using the L-type risk assessment method, 36 risks were identified and suggestions were made to eliminate these risks or reduce them to an acceptable level.
