The relationship of between dating violence attitudes with child rearing attitudes and transactional analysis ego states

The study aimed to examine the relationship between university students' dating violence attitudes and their child-rearing attitudes and ego states, and whether they differ in terms of sociodemographic characteristics (gender, parental relationship, parental education level, past exposure to violence, family income level, studying in numerical/verbal department). Data were collected from 408 randomly selected students whose parents were still alive, using the "Dating Violence Attitude Scale", "Child Raising Attitudes Scale", "Ego States Scale" and "Sociodemographic Characteristics Form" and evaluated through frequency calculations, Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA, Mann Whitney U, Pearson correlation and Independent t tests. According to the findings, there was a significant differentiation between the DVAS and all its subdimensions (general, physical, economic, emotional, sexual violence) and gender; between physical violence and mother's level of education; between dating violence attitudes and father's level of education; between economic violence and experiencing physical violence in the past; between DVAS and economic violence and experiencing sexual violence in the past; between DVAS and emotional violence and family income level; between DVAS, general-physical-emotional and sexual violence subdimensions and whether the student was studying in numerical or verbal department. A correlation was found between the sub-dimensions of the DVAS and the CRAS mother acceptance/interest; general violence and mother strict supervision/control, mother acceptance/interest and father acceptance/interest; emotional violence and mother and father strict supervision/control; economic violence and mother acceptance/interest; sexual violence and mother acceptance/interest and mother strict supervision/control. A relationship was found between Critical Parent ego state and physical violence and emotional violence. There was a relationship between Critical Parental ego state and the father scale and father's strict supervision/control subdimension of the CRAS; there was a relationship between the Implementing Child ego state and the mother scale, mother's strict supervision/control and father's strict supervision/control sub-dimensions of the CRAS.
