Abstract (EN)

Although many investigations have been carried out on concrete and reinforced concrete construction technology, torsion effect has not been enlightened enough yet. After detailed studies, it has realized that this effect should be taken into account for computation and design. Thus, structural members are reinforced by confining with torsion reinforcement. It is well known that cylindrical columns show better performance those of rectangular columns. Recently, although this member has been used rarely in our country, after the earthquakes which we have been subjected to, using of cylindrical columns should be increased. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the circular concrete columns under the effect of torsion with cyclic loading. The study consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, section, properties of concrete, advantages and disadvantages of reinforced concrete, torsion performance of cylindrical columns is mentioned. Second section is allocated for experimental studies which have been carried out and findings of the experiments are given. In the third section conclusions and recommendations from entire study are summarized. Finally in the last section a reference list is given. The study shows that cylindrical columns have better torsion performance than rectangular columns, when direction of the stirrups is on torsion direction. Otherwise, they show similar performance like rectangular columns.Key Words: Pure Torsion, Cylindrical Column, Cyclic Loading.
