Mother-doughter relationship in Füruzan's stories

ABSTRACTFüruzan?ın Öykülerinde Anne Kız lişkisiBurcu ŞafakBilkent ÜniversitesiTürk Edebiyatı BölümüWhen examined in a wide perspective, one of the prominent novelistsof the contemporary Turkish literature, Füruzan (born 1932) usually usedchild characters -especially girls- in her novels and stories as the narratorand woman characters are plotted with similar characteristics between them.Whether she is a girl or an adult woman, the narrator?s relation with hermother is important in all twenty stories in the books Parasız Yatılı,Kuşatma, Benim Sinemalarım, Gül Mevsimidir, Gecenin Öteki Yüzü andSevda Dolu Bir Yaz, whicle this thesis focuses. In these stories, the child orthe mother come out with the emotion of deprivation in hard economicalsituations. In this thesis, mother - daughter relationship, desire to reach abetter social status and simulacrums used to tell that, deprivation, function ofthe man in woman?s life will be examined in Füruzan?s stories and thedynamic which these subjects are plotted around will be illustrated. If thestory characters are examined in the socialist feminism theory context,woman characters experience autonomous identity decision problems and thedecision processes are sculpted by emotion of deprivation and characteristicsof mother - daughter relations are affected by this emotion also.keywords: woman, mother, daughter, social status, feminism, socialistfeminism
