Digital transformation of journalism and its effects on sports journalism: The example of YouTube

Abstract (EN)

In recent years, there have been significant differences in the processes and methods of access the news. It is observed that while the field of journalism activities carried out in the traditional sense is shrinking, digital media is coming to the forefront more and more every day. In this study, the development process of internet technology, which occupies an extremely important position in the life of societies, the innovations it brings to the journalism profession, the concept of new media and the effects of the digital transformation in the media sector on sports journalism are mentioned. In the research part of the study, the semi-structured interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Interviews have been conducted with professional sports journalists who have previously worked in traditional media organizations and are currently doing sports reporting in digital media. In this study, which it is aimed to evaluate first-hand the differences observed by journalists between traditional sports media and digital sports media, a wide variety of findings were reached, such as the quality of the content produced in digital media is at a better level than the traditional media, working in digital media has a positive effect on journalists and traditional media tools such as television, newspaper and radio may be completely replaced by digital platforms in the coming years.
