Abstract (EN)

The conversion of the old Antep houses in Gaziantep to serve many purposes such as museums, associations, cultural centers and libraries has been increasing in recent years. In particular, public institutions, associations, private collectors and universities form cultural structures in old Antep houses in different areas. Some of these buildings operate as public areas, but it is worth discussing whether these structures are easily accessible spaces for people with disabilities. This study of the old Antep houses converted by determining the accessibility issues for people with disabilities gain new functions examining the legal rights they have in Turkey, aims at creating awareness of the cultural structure needed to be able to move barrıer-free. Deficiencies in accessing cultural structures were determined by defining the deficiencies. It is possible to enable people with disabilities to survive in an active way rather than to keep them alive, forgotten and isolated individuals, and to be independent in society and to expand the culture of accessibility.
