Abstract (EN)

In biomass gasification, it is aimed at achieving high temperatures in the reactor and improving the gasification efficiency especially when working with downdraft reactors. However, it is difficult to achieve a stable and continuous thermochemical conversion in the oxidation zone of the reactor. In addition, most gasification reactors are limited to the use of single type and size fuel as feedstock. In this study, in order to be able to be directly burned in gas combustion systems, production of synthesis gas from various biomass fuels using gasification technology was studied. Biomass such as wood blocks, hazelnut shell, pinecone shell and pellet were used as feedstock to investigate the gasification performances in synthesis gas production. Thanks to the eight air channels placed in the oxidation zone of the reactor, the gasification temperatures were balanced throughout each region. All parts of the assembly that include cooling, filtering and gas burning were established as a pilot scale gasification unit. Throughout the experiments conducted, temperature values in excess of 700°C were achieved in the oxidation zone without complete combustion. The temperature of the gas produced at high temperatures is reduced to 35-45°C at the system outlet. Depending on the type of feedstock used and the temperatures reached, the rate of production of the volatiles in the synthesis gas varies between 18-21 percent CO, 3-5 percent H2, 0,5-6 percent CH4, 0,1-3 percent CO2 and 67-74 percent N2. In addition, a parabolic dish was used to take advantage of solar energy. By means of the crucible placed in the oxidation zone, temperatures above 1500°C were reached in this region. Thermal analysis was performed for the designed oxidation zone and its suitability with experimental findings was evaluated.
