Determination of language needs of the of the Syrians under temporary protection: example of Şanliurfa

In March 2011 in Syria, millions of people left their homes because of the turmoil. In this chaos situation, about three million Syrians have taken refuge in Turkey.This research was carried out in order to determine the language needs of the Syrians under temporary protection in Şanlıurfa. For this purpose, the partipiciant group of this research, which is organized as a gore for qualitative research method, constitutes 36 Syrian refugees living in Şanlıurfa. The results of the research were analyzed by content analysis and it was determined that asylum seekers "educational, economic and social needs" were formed from three sub-dimensions of Turkish learning language needs. It has been seen that asylum seekers attach importance to verbal communication skills. As a result of the research, the social needs of asylum seekers increased in proportion to the longevity of the asylum seekers in Turkey and the economic needs increased due to the increase of the education situation. In addition, it was determined that the Syrians want to be citizens of the Republic of Turkey.
